CFCG Sponsors London College of Music 130th Anniversary Concert cum Graduation Ceremony


Sponsored by China First Capital Group Limited (“CFCG” or the “Group”), the London College of Music 130-Year Anniversary Concert cum Graduation Ceremony was held on 9 September at Yuet Ming Auditorium, Chong Yuet Ming (CYM) Cultural Centre, the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Wilson Sea, Chairman and Executive Director of CFCG, and Ms. Li Minwen, Chief Operating Officer, were invited to the event and they in turn brought their business partners to attend to appreciate the merits of the Group’s overseas strategic partner. Other distinguished guests invited to the event included Professor John Howard, Director of London College of Music Examinations, and Dr. Chu Ching Hong, Chairman of Hong Kong Musicians Association.

At the concert cum graduation ceremony, Professor Peter John, Vice-Chancellor of the University of West London, presented graduation diplomas to the students who successfully completed the examination of Diploma of the London College of Music (“LCM”). He also conferred an Honourary Master’s degree of Music of LCM on Mr. Hins Cheung, a famous Hong Kong singer and music producer, in recognition of his achievements and contributions to music. Speaking at the event, Professor John said, “I am very delighted that this prominent anniversary event could be held in Hong Kong. Inclusion, diversity and creativity have been regarded as the keys of development for our College. In the future, we will continue to strengthen our unique advantages. We aim at meeting the needs of both the audience and music industry for globally diverse talent through our international programmes and networks. I believe that our College will do even better in the coming 130 years and will nurture more potential future stars for the music industry.” Professor John also presented certificates to five sponsors of this event, including CFCG, to express appreciation for their support.

To celebrate the 130th anniversary of its founding, the LCM arranged a concert immediately after the graduation ceremony. The concert started with a piano rendition by Mr. William, an outstanding graduate of LCM in piano, of a well-known song in Hong Kong – “Below the Lion Rock” (獅子山下). This was followed by the singing performance by Mr. Feng Guodong, Ms. Wang Hongyao and Ms. Zhou Lu from Xinghai Conservatory of Music, a partner of LCM. They performed aria (Largo al Factotum, Una Voce Poco Fa) and duet (Dunque Io Son) from the well-known opera “The Barber of Seville”. Then Mr. Hins Cheung, the new recipient of the Honourary Master’s degree of Music of LCM, sang two of his biggest hits “迷失表參道” and “青春常駐”, accompanied by the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Orchestra, bringing the atmosphere to a climax. The concert concluded with the performance by Mr. Liu Shih Kun, a famous pianist in China and consultant of LCM Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Orchestra of the piano concerto “Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto (No. 1 in B flat minor Op. 23)” and “Yellow River Piano Concerto (2nd and 4th Movement)”. The guests, graduates, parents and audience off the stage were very much enchanted with the impressive tones and melody as well as the evocative singing.

I take this opportunity to congratulate LCM on the 130th anniversary of its founding. I sincerely wish the college can continue to make progress based on the past achievements, steadfastly providing a quality music education to those who have interest in learning music and continuously nurturing future generations of elite music professionals. I sincerely wish that all new graduates will set their own direction and realise their potential as well as for their talent to shine in different places of the world.”

Founded in 1887, the London College of Music is among the oldest music educational institutions in the United Kingdom. It is now the School of Music of University of West London and has been arranging external examinations since inception. These exams are widely held in examination centers in the UK, Ireland and overseas and are the only exams to be certified by universities among numerous external exams. Courses on examinations of different levels and Diploma examinations provided by the London College of Music have earned endorsement from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), an assessment organisation in the UK, a recognition of quality. The exam scores are also to be included under the NQF national qualification framework. Students who obtain a pass or above grade in the Grade 6-8 exams of the London College of Music have a higher score for their admission application for universities in the UK.

Chairman Wilson Sea believes the Group can leverage the advantages of the London College of Music in music and art education to introduce high quality overseas resources to the Group's current or future projects in China, hence accelerating the internationalisation of the CFCG brand.
